Put the Phone Down: A Message from the Digital Rebels

Hey! We’re Digital Rebels — and I’m Ikhlas Merabti, one of the proud rebels behind this growing movement. We’re a group of change-makers committed to guiding the future generation towards healthier digital habits.

We get it — phones are everywhere. They’re in our hands, our pockets, our beds, even our minds. But it’s time to pause and ask: Are we living, or are we just scrolling?

That’s why we’re launching our very first campaign during Screen Free Week: Who Gives A F**pp?

We’re not asking you to throw your phone in a river (tempting, we know). We’re just encouraging you to try to cut down on your screen time. Start small. Just 25 minutes less a day — on your way to work, right before bed, during lunch — and see how it feels. Our mission is to help people reconnect with themselves, others, and the world around them.

Let’s build better habits together. Let’s take back control. Let’s REBEL — against the scroll.

Here are some tips to start your digital detox:

  • No phones at mealtimes. Pop them in a basket or box — out of sight, out of mind. Reclaim mealtime as a moment to connect, talk, and be fully present with others. This simple act boosts real conversation and builds stronger relationships.

  • No phones at bedtime. Charge your phone in another room. Give your brain and eyes the break they deserve. You’ll fall asleep faster and wake up more refreshed. Scrolling until midnight isn’t a flex — deep sleep is!

  • Go grayscale.
Yep, switch your phone to black and white. It instantly makes everything less exciting — which means you’re less likely to get sucked in by that dopamine-dripping feed.

  • Turn off notifications.
Every ping is a distraction. Switch them off and take back your focus. Your time and attention are valuable — don’t give them away so easily.

  • Get outside.
Nature is the best kind of notification. Go for a walk, do some exercise, grab a coffee with a friend without your phone. Let yourself exist in the moment — no screen required.

Now What?

So you’ve read the blog — amazing. That means you care. That means you’re ready to make a change, even if it’s just a small one.

Now do us a favour: share this blog with a friend. Then have them share it with someone else.  Let’s show the world what it means to log off and live more.

Stay tuned — this is just the beginning. We’ve got more blogs, challenges, and tools on the way to help you take control of your digital wellbeing.

Together, we can build a healthier, happier relationship with technology. One scroll-less day at a time. We’re not anti-phones. We’re pro-life — real, present, joyful life.
