The power of collaboration. Our ecosystem for positive change.
FlippGen’s Ecosystem of Change
In all the noise around the current under 16’s social media ban debate, we are missing two vital things:
- Framing the issue as ban vs no ban is simply reinforcing people operating in silos, and working in isolation.
- Instead we should be asking, “Do we want the current status quo to change?” The overwhelming answer is yes.
FlippGen believes in the power of collaboration. An ecosystem for positive change with intention; where parents, schools, and the government work together, and youth voices are included in the conversation.
This is not a party political issue, but there are two proposed amendments to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill on Wednesday:
- An outright ban on all social media for under 16’s, and;
- A proposal for film-style age ratings, so addictive design features, and algorithms feeding inappropriate content would be rated as 16+.
KEY POINT: The key point is that under both, the current main social media platforms as designed would be restricted to 16+
The difference is that if the government adopted a ‘safety by design’ approach, it would place the onus on the tech providers to make their platforms safe.
FlippGen urges you to try and find the 80% common ground. Please share this graphic, and help to switch ON the power of collaboration.
