Managing a Child's Chromebook

Chromebooks managed through Google Family Link give you strong controls — including supervising school-issued devices in some cases.

Setting Up Family Link on a Chromebook

  1. On your phone, download the Google Family Link app.

  2. Create a Google account for your child (under 13s are automatically supervised).

  3. On the Chromebook, sign in with your child's Google account. If prompted, approve the supervision from your phone.

  4. Open the Family Link app on your phone to manage settings remotely.

What You Can Manage

  • Website filters — Google SafeSearch is on by default.

  • App approvals — your child requests apps from the Play Store and you approve or deny them.

  • Screen time — set daily limits and a bedtime schedule.

  • Location — see where the Chromebook is.

  • Activity reports — see which websites and apps were used.

Tip: School Chromebooks are managed by the school, so some settings will be locked. Focus your controls on any personal devices they use at home.
