Parental Controls on a Windows PC or Mac
Both Windows and Mac have free, built-in tools to help you manage what your child does on a computer.
Windows: Microsoft Family Safety
Go to account.microsoft.com/family and sign in with your Microsoft account.
Click Add a family member and create an account for your child.
On your child's device, make sure they're signed in with that account.
From the Family Safety dashboard you can set screen time schedules, block inappropriate websites, approve apps, and see activity reports.
What You Can Control
Open System Settings (or System Preferences) and click Screen Time.
Click the dropdown at the top and select your child's account (or create one in Family Sharing first).
Turn on Screen Time and set a Screen Time Passcode so your child can't change the settings.
Use Content & Privacy Restrictions to block adult websites, restrict app downloads, and limit explicit content.
Tip: For both platforms, make sure your child has their own user account — not yours. This is the key step that makes parental controls actually work.
