Parental Controls on an Amazon Fire / Kindle Tablet

Amazon's Fire tablets are popular with younger kids and have excellent built-in parental controls through Amazon Kids (formerly FreeTime).

Setting Up Amazon Kids

  1. From the home screen, swipe down and tap Settings.

  2. Tap Parental Controls, then turn them on.

  3. Create a parental controls password.

  4. Tap Amazon Kids and follow the setup to add your child's profile.

  5. Choose an age range — Amazon will automatically filter content to suit their age.

What You Can Control

  • Which apps, books, videos and games your child can access.

  • Daily screen time limits — set different limits for weekdays and weekends.

  • Bedtime — the tablet locks itself at a time you choose.

  • Web browsing — you can block it completely or limit to approved sites.

  • In-app purchases — always block these!

Tip: Kids Mode changes the whole look of the phone — it becomes colourful and child-friendly. Your child won't be able to exit without your PIN.
